Lexington is a city with a population of approximately 7,700 residents that is located in the western half of Tennessee. The city is the county seat of Henderson County, and the population of Lexington represents more than 25 percent of the county’s total population. The city of Lexington lies nearly equidistant from the two largest cities in Tennessee. Lexington is approximately 110 miles southwest of Nashville, the state capital and the largest city in the Volunteer state. Lexington is located approximately 110 miles northeast of the state’s second-largest city, Memphis. Interstate 40 runs east-west across the state and Lexington is located a few miles south of the interstate. Interstate 40 also connects Lexington to Jackson, which is a city of more than 65,000 residents and is one of the largest cities in the surrounding region. Jackson is about 25 miles west of Lexington. Lexington’s strategic location and access to a major east-west interstate and a location with several of the growing geographic regions along the Sunbelt makes the city a natural spot for manufacturing, transportation and warehousing of goods. The major industries and the jobs in the city are typically blue-collar in nature.
